MISS CALIFORNIA 2013!

Hello fans,

I have been so busy with this Miss Cali pageant - who knew! I have been busy working on myself, both the inside and the outside. (The outside had some help with personal trainer Johnny Ray at the LA Fitness in Encino. Follow him on twitter @imselfmade3 - he's amazing!) The inside, basically have been reading more of Dr. Wayne Dyer - love him!!! - and just trying to remember things of my past/about me so I am prepared for the interview questions.

Also needed to get dresses, shoes, jewelry (from Inland Fashion), hair extensions, curling iron, makeup (sponsored by the airbrush professionals, Dinair (@dinair1 on instagram / @dinair on Twitter). Finally got my swim suit customized from Cexce Bikinis  -- now just waiting on my gown!! (and their shoes ... and maybe some more hair extensions haha). Next week will be getting my teeth whitened from the amazing dentists at Sunset Plaza Dental (tell them I referred you if you need a dentist!) .. then will get sugared from Studio Alexandria, and spray tanned from Bronzed -- can't wait!!

This journey has been amazing and something so new for me. I can't wait to compete (and win ;) ) and to meet these amazing girls from all over the state of California. Also excited to get the word out there about Cystic Fibrosis, my platform on which I will compete. Very much looking forward to seeing where life takes me after the pageant! Stay tuned!!

PS - if you want to buy tickets for the event and support me, I will be forever grateful!: http://www.ticketmaster.com/Miss-California-Teen-Usa-tickets/artist/877497

PPS -- I have just gotten into Homeland -- OMG I AM OBSESSED!

All for now,

Miss California USA 2013

Hi fans!

Sorry I've been away for a while. Hope you're still with me.

I'll cut out all the BS I've been up to, and cut right to the chase. First, please welcome me back to "funemployment" - I'm on day 19. So far, so good.

My latest venture though is that I am competing in Miss California! I actually got recruited for it, never done a pageant in my life, but I passed all the interviews and I'm in! So exciting! Hoping to meet some amazing people, and perhaps this could be a spring board for my career, not to mention I want to raise awareness for cystic fibrosis www.cff.org ....Since I was diagnosed at 7 months, that will be the charity I focus on on this journey, and will be my platform when competing because I don't have a local title to represent.

Currently building up my sponsor list, and to-date I am getting a free teeth whitening from my dentist, DDS Poneh Ghasri, www.sunsetplazadental.com. Another sponsor is Just Jamie, so if you are looking for the hottest scarves/accessories, you must check her out! www.justjamiescarves.com! Working out a few others, so stay tuned for the final list!!

Also, if you would like to be a sponsor of mine, whether it be personal or through a business, please check out my site at www.harleykonner.webs.com/miss-california-2013 where you can click the PayPal link. If you want to pay through quick pay with Chase Bank, use my email address harley.konner (at)gmail (.)com. You will get recognition and all donations are tax deductible - hooray! Any size donation is humbly appreciated, so thank you in advance for your support!

PS - went apple picking the other day out in Oak Glen, about 2 hrs east of LA, and it was amazing!! google apple picking in Oak Glen, and you can check it out. Riley's and Snow Line were the best! Apple cider, pies, chicken pot pies, hot chocolate, donuts, berries, Colonial War stuff, etc etc -- so fun! Dress accordingly, and get out there before they close at the end of November!!

    THE LATEST

    Hey blog fans!!

So I've been quite busy, sorry for the delays in my posts. Let's see, last time we saw each other was around July 4th ... sooooo here's what's up.

Early in July was the open call for ABC's The Bachelor down in San Diego, so a coworker and I took a road trip down there to recruit for work. (Yes, I am still casting for the dating show Excused.) We figured this could be a very lucrative spot, getting all the rejects --- we know they're single, and we know they're down to be on TV. However, the logistics of the event were not in our favor. The call was from 3-7 at a hotel, so we had to wait around there for 4 hours. We couldn't even go into the ballroom, as the casting directors were checking people in right away. So we literally stood in the parking lot and chased girls down. It was quite exhilarating, actually.

The next weekend we went down to The OC Fairgrounds for the Motocross part of the X Games. I have never been at a more white trash event. I was in awe of the demographic of the crowd. From tattoos to ill-fitting clothes, I was just in disbelief. But the riders were very impressive, and it was pretty fun to watch. The noise of the crowd too just got my adrenaline pumping. After watching the jumps and tricks we decided to walk around the carnival - the biggest one I had ever been in. From rides, to games, to food, to teeth whitening and massage booths, it was very entertaining and held my attention to the fullest. I was very impressed, and felt like a kid again. (Oh yeah, I can't leave out that I bought fried cheese on a stick, which was the best purchase of the year - by far).

That next day, I went to the Hollywood Bowl for the first time with a group of friends for a Grease Sing-a-long. We had no idea what to expect, so we didn't realize that it was going to be the movie played on a big screen with the lyrics popping up once each song started - we thought it was going to be a band playing all the music. So anyway, this was a lot better  -- it was so much fun! Everyone in the crowd dressed up - except for us (even though I wanted to, no one ever replied to that part of the email, so of course I wasn't going to be the only one doing that in the crew- haha oh well!) Side note - it was really cool that you could actually see the "Hollywood" sign from our seats.

I've also had a couple auditions, and also shot a Benefit Cosmetics commercial to air on youtube (link to follow). Sarah Colonna was in it too, and doing the scene with her was the best! It was hard to keep a straight face and keep in character. It was such a fun shoot! Everyone had a fashion faux-pas, and Sarah was the fashion police, giving out tickets etc. My fashion faux-pas was bad foundation.

Lastly, I randomly saw a matchmaker. I had been following this chick on the site meetup.com, and would get her emails for events every once in a while, but I had never gone to any. Finally an email was about signing up for free to be in their database - so I made a profile. The next day I got a call from her assistant asking if I'd like a free consultation to potentially become a paying client. I agreed. I went in after work and met with her, and essentially she said I was too young and pretty to be a client but I should stay in her database for her men clientele. Side note - should I have agreed to become a client, their "cheapest plan" was $3,000 upfront for a max of 9 dates that they plan for you. So, if you meet someone on your very first date, you're out 3k, and if you don't meet someone on your 9th date, you're out 3k. Not so much pocket change for me at this point in my career. ... The very next morning, the matchmaker calls me from her cell phone, and said she had a great guy for me - the quickest turnaround she's ever had, she says. All she was able to tell me was he was 6'1, 31 yrs old, owns a consulting firm, and is building a 4-bedroom house on the beach down in Seal Beach. Oh yeah, and his name (I had to ask his name at the end of the phone call - I thought that was odd). So I agreed to meet him for a drink Fri night - what the hell, right? Well, a drink was instantly turned into a dinner (for him only, mind you - I obviously ate earlier, not thinking this was going to be a frickin dinner date! - I'm sorry, but that's a little much for a first (blind) date. Oh yeah, this was a blind date, forgot to add that in. Anyway, so we were sitting down for like 2 hrs -- now don't get me wrong - the conversation was great, we had a lot in common and similar interests, but as soon as I met/saw him, I knew there would be no chemistry, and he physically just wasn't my type - never would I have picked him out of a crowd for myself. So come the end of the date, which I had to initiate the wrap up, (awk), he asked for my number. I asked if that was in the rules of matchmaking, as I've never done this before, and Patty Stanger's rules scare me on her show. (*No, Patty was not the matchmaker for this). So I gave him my digits because I felt bad. Needless to say he texted me that same night, and early the next morning, and then again over the weekend. I emailed the matchmaker saying thanks but no thanks, and I think she relayed the message to the guy. (*Insert action of wiping sweat off brow).

Ah, one more thing! I just entered this contest for American Eagle to be part of their next campaign! Please vote for me, once a day, http://www.ae.com/web/sweepstakes/index.jsp?p=6fae82fca6129a46 ....much appreciated, and spread the word!

    THE 4th!

Happy belated Fourth O' July everyone!! Hope everyone had fun and was safe. For some reason, LA had nearly the worst weather on the 4th. For weeks leading up to it, we've had sunny, cloudless skies, and perfect warm temperatures. However, once Wednesday struck, the clouds came in and so did the cool temperatures --- womp wompppp. Luckily, most of my plans were inside. First, I hit up an apt party in the Pacific Palisades. What a nice apt!! Johnny Depp was there, which was cool. Just kidding, the dude just really looked like him, but I was starstruck anyway. It was a lot of fun, but broke up after several hours, as we started to get antsy and wanted to be outside on the beach, regardless of the lack of sunshine. So a friend of mine and I hit up another party I knew about on the beach in Santa Monica by the "steps" -- for some reason it took us forever to figure out exactly where it was, but alas we made it, and the party was still going strong with drinks, cornhole, and volleyball. We stayed there for quite some time till we got hungry, so we hit up this party in Century City -- turns out the guy that lived there was one of the "geeks" from a season of Beauty and the Geek. Amazing place!!.. Plus some really nice people and amazing food -- including smores -- YES, SMORES!!! -- i know, I had several, and they were delish. We ventured up to his roof to watch the fireworks, equipped with blankets and iphones acting as speakers playing some Amer'can jams.  The only issue with getting up to the roof was getting down. The only access was the opening through the guy's closet and the stair case wasn't a staircase - it was a ladder! .. Now I don't know about you, but I'm not a professional ladder climber, and getting down is harder than getting up - especially when you're a bit tipsy and you need to balance yourself to get your other leg over the ledge to begin the decent and not fall and completely fuck up and kill yourself. Needless to say it took me a good minute to accomplish this task, and with the help of about 3 guys to balance off of-- but I made it down safely!!

I finally made it home, and went right to bed, as I had work the next day, bright and early. I was surprised at the mix of people who had off vs who didn't have off work but I think the majority of us had work, which I was surprised by.

What did you do to celebrate??? Did you have off work on the 5th?? Share your stories / thoughts / concerns in the comment box :)

All for now, thanks for stoppin by,

    Kitchen Sinking It

Wow, just realized I haven't updated since Vegas! Shame on me ... well, let me get you up to speed on my life since then:

Vegas: Amazing. Such a fun weekend, I really had a blast! However, I will never go back during Memorial Day weekend again nor stay at the Hard Rock hotel again - worst customer service, even though they gave us a free bottle of Skyy vodka due to our room not being ready till 445pm. Anyway, the first day we got there we went ziplining over Freemont Street - highly recommend it. Then hit up Rehab pool, then at night we went to Tryst. Sunday, we went to the pools at the MGM (PS, did you know they got rid of the lions in their lobby? so sad). Then we ventured to the "Welcome to Vegas Sign" - we had our cab driver hop out with us and take our photo! Sunday night we hit up Lavo for the deep fried Oreos - best dessert everrrrr .. then partied at Tao. Monday was our last day so we chilled poolside at Nirvana at the Hard Rock - the entire lay out deck + bottom of the pool is sand - very cool.

A few weekends later my best friend from growing up finally came out to visit me! We've known each other for 20 years - kinda crazy, but that's when you know you got a true friendship. Anyway, we had a blast - jam packed weekend. We hit up the American Idol auditions at Dodger Stadium - quite an experience, then she explored all that Burbank had to offer while I was at work. Fri night we went out on Main Street to Areal (get their pizzas!!) then hit up a friend's rooftop party at his apt in Downtown LA. Saturday we spent the day at Malibu Family Wines (did I mention our ride up there was in a convertible?? woop woooop). That night I took her to Cinespia at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery - this is a real cemetery that holds screenings through the summer on Sat nights, usually famous old scary movies. Everyone lines up about 2 hours before doors open, and you bring blankets, and pillows and picnic stuff + beer/wine is allowed too! Then they project the movie on a huge screen, which is really the side of a mausoleum. The movie we saw was Nightmare on Elm Street - Johnny Depp's first movie (so in the credits it said "And Introducing, Johnny Depp - haha). Anyway, so of course you look around at everyone else's spread and set-up, to see what they brought, and what you excluded or forgot in your own picnic. I must say, the winners were this group that brought a little mini folding table, and they had legit wine glasses, and candles! So cute, ugh I was jealous I wasn't in that group. Then on Sunday we enjoyed a nice brunch for a bday at The Roof -- on top of the Wilshire Hotel. Amazing view of West Hollywood/ Hollywood Hills - you could even see the Hollywood Sign in the background! The food was delicious too, plus the little wading pool in the middle of the deck was nice too. Then I had to take her to Coffee Bean, which is the LA's "starbucks" - even though we have Starbucks, no one else has CB so we had to do a taste test comparison. Later on the way to take my friend to the airport, we made a quick detour to In and Out, as she had never eaten there before, and that is such an LA thing also, not to mention we also bought matching T-shirts!

That's pretty much it as of now, ladies and gents. Oh PS, I went surfing the other day for like the 2nd time and it was amazing! I have another lesson coming up this weekend, and am super psyched about it. Oh yeah, and my parents are coming to visit too, so that should be fun! Thanks for reading, all for now!

    VIVA LAS VEGAS!

Vegas countdown is 3 days!!! woohooooo! I am so excited, can't wait! Everything is pretty planned as of now, so it's nice to have things to look forward to. Top 2 things I'm looking forward to, you ask? 1. Deep fried Oreos at Lavo, 2. Zip lining downtown over Freemont St.

We are staying at the Hard Rock Hotel, fancy, I know ... and I just realized that it's off the strip .. oh well, who wants to walk in heels anyway, am I right??

When you go to Vegas, what do you like to do / where do you like to go???

I'll blog about it all when I'm back and we can swap stories ... or will I wanna abide by "what happens in Vegas stays in vegas...???
